One Week!

Yes, The Dinosaur Lords launches one week from today! RAWR!!1!

2015-07-21 DinoLords Postcards Arrive! 018 IMG_20150721_175124 crop

The postcards, visible at the top of the picture, arrived on my porch this morning from Tor Books, courtesy of my publicist, Leah Withers. The bookplate, lower left, and business card (front and rear view, lower right), came in last week. They’re done by my good friends Sara M. Harvey and Matt Schwartz at J & J Printers, Inc.

Ain’t they purty?

Dinosaurs Inside!

Surprise! A book called The Dinosaur Lords has dinosaurs in it. Who knew?

Well, not so fast, Captain Obvious Straw Man! There aren’t just dinosaurs made of words. There’s pictures.

Pretty pictures. Awesome pictures.

I could also have entitled the post, “Horror Is The Thing With Feathers.”

Yes, to the wonderment and envy of my peers, The Dinosaur Lords has interior illustrations. And they're by the mad artistic genius behind The Cover, Richard Anderson.

There are ten of them. One appears at the beginning of each and every chapter of the book. Tor asked me to write a brief description of each one, including the background on the actual animal, and the role in plays in the novel.

Now, thanks to the fine folks at SF Signal, the first installment has appeared.

The Dinosaurs Abroad!

Before the Roger Zelazny Memorial at the Jean Cocteau Cinema last month, my agent Kay McCauley came up to me outside the theater, gave me a hug, and said, "We have a Polish contract?"

Seriously, the inflection made it sound like a question. To which my witty riposte was, “We do?”

“Yes, and we’d be nuts not to take it.”

Here’s Brazilian theropod Pycnonemosaurus nevesi enjoying the Uberabatitan entrée in his natural environment, a Late Cretaceous woodland churrascaria.

Since I seriously wasn’t expecting a major bidding war for Polish-language rights for The Dinosaur Lords, I naturally said, “Sure!”

One Month

The Dinosaur Lords gets released one month from today: July 28th, 2015!

That’s not scary at all.

Don’t worry, sweetie. He’s more afraid of you than you are of him.

It’s exciting, sure. But … whoa! Lot of trepidation involved, I must admit.

Tor continues to do well by me. On Twitter they just trotted out The Quote again – you know the one I mean. And speaking of The Quote, I believe I forgot to link it a couple months ago when released the guest blog post they asked me to do where I tell the story of how it came about. So here it is.

The Change Keeps Happening!

Or at least, it’s happening again.

Not the Change, which happened March 17, 1998 at 6:15 PM PST (tl;dr: shit broke.) The Change: Tales of Downfall and Rebirth, the senses-shattering anthology edited by Steve “S. M.” Stirling! Which is set after – well, you know.

Yes, we’re doing it again – as in signing it. At least some or all of the NM authors who contributed, which is about most of us.  And this time we’re doing it here:

Page One Storefront

Yes, that’s Albuquerque’s own swell Page One Bookstore. Where we’ll be ringing in The Change at 4 PM on Saturday, June 27th.

Tasty Dinosaur Samples!

Of course, they probably taste like chicken.

Not because we’re in the Matrix (again, probably), but because chickens, like all birds, are dinosaurs.

So people have been asking for excerpts from my senses-shattering, soon-to-be-released epic fantasy novel The Dinosaur Lords. I used to have some here on the blog, but in the Great Upgrade carried out by my Webmaster Supreme Ron Miles they got unavoidably misplaced.

But now here some are, courtesy of the fine folks at!

Change of Scene!

For The Change!

Remember how the launch party for the (now released!) anthology The Change: Tales of Downfall and Rebirth was supposed to be held at George RR Martin's Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe, NM, on Monday, June 15 at 7 PM? Well, it’s still happening the same date and time.

Just not the same place.

Instead it’s here:

In the heart of The Railyard in downtown Santa Fe, it says right here.

What happened was, the Cocteau scored a run of Jurassic World, no less.  But apparently they had to agree to screen it on Monday night or face a fate worse than rampaging dinosaurs.

Two Months!

Holy carp! That’s all that remains until the modest little tome I like to call The Dinosaur Lords comes out from Tor!

Not that I’m counting down the days, hours, and minutes until the culmination of twelve or thirteen years (I can’t even remember now) of work finally happens.  No, as you can see from my home page, I leave that up to the suave counter installed by my Web-Master Supreme, Ron Miles.

Please enjoy this epic title page, courtesy of and artist Richard Anderson.

Yeah. I’m scared. It’s my baby. It’s going out all alone into the cold, cruel world. Sniff.

The Dinosaur Invasion Has Begun!

Say hello to your new saurian masters!

Your … Dinosaur Lords, if you will.

They’re here! The “uncorrected advance reading copies” – meaning, bound galleys, I guess?

They’re gorgeous. Oh, holy carp. My modest camera skills do not do them justice.

And they have the INTERIOR ILLOS. Which are AWESOME.
