But not, I trust, of any crime! (That anyone knows about?)
They do get cool posters, don’t they?
Is it more great Brad Hamann work? If not, somebody please set me straight on whose it is.
So, remember how last spring I was Guest of Honor at the 2016 Jack Williamson Lectureship at Eastern New Mexico University, Portales NM? Yeah, well. I’m not this year, April 7, but fellow original Wild Cards Mafia member Melinda Snodgrass sure is! Along with frequent Wild Cards contributor and all-around good guy Michael Cassutt!
"What’s a Wild Cards?" I pretend to hear you ask? Well, rather than tear my hair out and ask what cave you’ve been dwelling in for the last thirty years – since for the greater part of those decades the series was hidden in a pretty deep, dark cave itself – I suggest you click on one of the above instances of the name. Or all of them.
We’re even gonna be a teevee show, if the stars align! It was on the news and everything.
“But what’s this got to do with you, Dinosaur Guy?” I likewise pretend to hear you say. (I pretend a lot. What can I say? It’s a living.)
Well, I’m glad you asked me that in my hyperactive imagination! Because thanks to the kind offices of JWL show-runner Patrice Caldwell, all the fine folks at the Jack Williamson Science Fiction Library, and Dave Asplund, who has generously offered to make the brutal round-trip both to collect me and bring me home, I’m going too! Yay!
I was able to secure the services of a house and pet sitter who’s helped me out before, and whom I know to be reliable.
And, aside from the fact I had a fine old the time going down for the Lectureship the last couple years, it’s appropriate this time ‘round because I, too, am an original Wild Cards Mafia member. In fact, like Melinda, I was part of it all long before there even was a Wild Cards!
So I’m pretty stoked and happy about this.
Y’all come see me, in the unlikely event you can. And if you can’t, try to make it down for Bubonicon 49, Friday, August 25th through Sunday the 27th, at the Albuquerque Marriott Uptown, 2101 Louisiana Blvd NE (Louisiana & I-40), Albuquerque, NM 87110. We got authors C.J. Cherryh and Sherwood Smith as Co-Guests of Honor; our Toastmaster is Ursula Vernon; and our Artist Guest of Honor is Albuquerque’s own Elizabeth Leggett! Plus numerous other usual suspects.
Plus we got some rando off the street emceeing our Costume Contest. Again. You should watch it anyway: it’s always great!
If you can’t be there in person, be there in spirit!
And as always - thanks for reading!
