I’ve got a new Rogue Angel novel coming out soon.
How do I know? The usual: yesterday I heard a truck pull up, Emma barked, and then thump! on my doorstep. Opened the door and there it was: a little box o’ joy.
The joy’s somewhat mitigated by the fact I’ve been less-than-ceremoniously dumped from writing for the series. Oh, well: it’s still a book of mine published. And that’s something, frankly, I should fight becoming blasé about.
Plus if you turn to the copyright page, as usual, there’s a thoughtful little message: “Special thanks and acknowledgment to Victor Milán for his contribution to this work.” And by “contribution” they mean, of course, “all the words.” It’s a nice touch inasmuch as they aren’t required to acknowledge me in any way whatsoever.
While I don’t get royalties off these books – no biggie, since I never do on the Gold Eagle series, and anyway it’s not as if the conventional publishers are exactly eager to fork out royalty earnings – you can still support this site, and, oh, yeah, me and the pets, by clicking here to buy. Or just click on the pic above. (To read it you will have to wait until July, however, when it actually, you know, comes out.)
Oh, and a heartfelt plea: if you read my Rogue Angel yarns and enjoy them, would you please consider hopping over to the relevant Amazon.com pages and saying so in a review? Much as I know I should ignore it, I grow weary sometimes of getting screwed over by reviewers who appear to believe it’s “bad characterization” to attempt to portray our heroine, Annja Creed, as anything but a) a guy with boobs, who’s b) sociopathic.
Thank you.

I’ve noticed in the Outlanders series that while Mark Ellis seems to be writing the books that cover major events in the series plotline. Still, your books there are the better ones — Ellis’ Mad Gods Wrath was damn near unreadable with all of the technobabble that he put into the latter two-thirds of the novel.
When is Gold Eagle going to give you your own series?! THAT’S what I’m looking to read!
When I was doing Outlanders I was basically told to stay away from major events in the series, and leave the characters untouched. Glad you enjoyed what I did with it. As you may remember from the old days of my Forum, before the implosion of my web-hosting service consigned it to oblivion, we all got enormous reams of shit from the cadre of Outlanders fans who found unforgivable the sin of Writing While Being Anyone But Mark Ellis.
I’m backing up my Forum regularly now – ulp! Better go do that. And I hope mention of OL doesn’t attract the same sort of lunatic effusions of vitriol here. Then again I’ve far less compunction about deleting and banning annoyances than I used to have. If they don’t play nice, they don’t play here.
As for Gold Eagle giving me my own series, that’s certainly a good idea – glad you feel that way. What I really hope is to get my own far more lucrative writing projects going. A process, by the way, I am on the verge of returning to.
Yep, I remember the ones who signed on just to trash you for your Deathlands and Outlanders books. Maybe they should write articles telling us how the techno-BS that he likes to throw out for consumption is really up to snuff?
As for your more lucrative projects — CLD II? The War for America? Dare I hope?
PS — I hope The Dinosaur Lords comes out SOON — the dino-skiffy theme is starting to get worn out, and I don’t want to see you release the book to a cold market.
Re: your mouseover – there’s a plausible tactical advantage in that. Same reason female pool hustlers usually wear low-cut tops and short, tight pants or skirts.
Of course, that tactic is of limited reliability and effectiveness (in either case – pool hustlers or warriors) if her opponent is also female.

Great. Now that the truck stop in Oklahoma is reguarly carrying Gold Eagle books you won’t be writing for them anymore. (I always check the “special thanks” page to see if the title is one of yours.)
Enjoyed the GOLDEN ELEPHANT story. Was the character Eeasy yours or a prop in the series?
Ah well, back to beef jerky and M&Ms for the ride home from the ranch.
The guy who pays retail
Mike – what I’m betting – as I have been since starting the project – the appeal of dinosaurs is deep and abiding enough for The Dinosaur Lords to go over big. It’s completely different from Primeval, and I expect the new Will Ferrell movie, which is anyway yet another remake of a crappy TV show, to be crappy and ephemeral enough not to make much impact despite the mass hype. I may be wrong; that’s the chance one always takes.
Would I be happier had I finished it years ago? Almost certainly.
Anyway. now that I seem to’ve achieved a breakthrough in my method of writing, CLD II and War4Am are most real possibilities for what MST3K used to call “the not too distant future.” Albeit, sadly, not quite so soon as Next Sunday, AD.
Meowlin – good point. Not that I could actually use that in an RA yarn.
Dennis V. – welcome aboard! Most pleasant surprise to see you here.
Glad you’re enjoying my Rogue Angel yarns. Don’t give up on your truck stop quite yet: I still have, if memory serves, two more Annja books in the pipeline.
The character of Easy is all mine. I really enjoyed writing her. The RA editors discouraged continuing characters beyond Roux, Garin, and Annja herself.
We gonna get to see you at Bubonicon this year – where Everything’s Better With Zombies?
Over at Glen Cook’s booth at Hypericon in Nashville this weekend, I spied a whole section of Rogue Angel books and was happily showing off to my friends and cohorts.
Many of them included your signature as Alex Archer with a nice parenthtical reference to alert me that you are actually Victor Milan!
I haven’t gotten into reading them, myself, but I recommeded them to all at the con. Too bad to hear you won’t be involved. They really look like a fun series of books!
Thanks for pushing my Rogue Angel yarns! I much appreciate it.
The books were a hoot to do. Hope you find them a hoot to read.
As long as there isn’t a work stoppage at, well, work, I will be there. (Otherwise I trade in my arcane real estate duties’ three piece suit for my Mr. Picket Line Monitor outfit.)
You bet I’m ready, I’ve a brand new Zombie head on a stick tee shirt to wear Saturday.
The books are indeed a hoot.
Good day Mr. Milan.
Your Team Phonenix was different in the Axelverse than what portrayed up to that time and was a refreshing change of pace for the series.
Many of the people in JA.com didn’t like the way you represented Kane and co.They said Kane& Co. acted out of charcter when you wrote them. Others said they didn’t like your homage to Guardians in OUTLANDERS.
But seeing how GE put limits on what you could do,I can understand your frustration. Now the people (esp.the old-timers)like Mr. Ellis writting 100%.
Gold Eagle has now removed Mark Ellis as the head writer of OL.GE is afarid people are liking OL because Ellis. Again the old-timers says this is the death-knell of OL. What are your thoughts about any of this?
In the end keep writing.
[...] – yeah. About that book. It arrove last week in the customary manner. Was too busy with actual (re)writing to blog about it. (The problem with blogging is that [...]
