I get a new book proposal out. Hopefully money coming in will ensue. Gee, I hope not. And I can’t literally be. I was sound asleep and Emma Dog roused me crying to go outside; that’s the only reason I’m up and around at this Godless hour. When Emma wants out, I let her out. I’m just going to say she’s a big dog, and let it go [...] I need to be better about updating my blog. So here’re some quick and semi-random notes. First, I’m hustling to polish off my story for the new standalone Wild Cards anthology, Fort Freak. It’s kind of a Sidney Lumet yarn: lots of conversation and conspiracy, then somebody gets shot. But light-hearted. No, really. Mostly. It does get [...] Okay, it wasn’t that adverse. It was hot enough, despite the swamp cooler, to wilt the cat. I looked like this too. And in spite of the heat I finished the massive chapter-by-chapter, scene-by-scene summary of The Dinosaur Lords. How massive? It’s 25,198 words by itself. All right. I know that news will frustrate some of you. [...] I get crazy when I finish a yarn. My friends can all tell you. The bigger the project, the crazier I get. I have to be a warrior; a slave I couldn't be. A soldier and a conqueror, fighting to be free. Now my iPod, Podkayne, plays Wishbone’s Ash‘s “Throw Down the Sword” from Argus – [...] Okay, I’m not yet finished with the rough draft of my epic (in several senses) fantasy novel, The Dinosaur Lords. But I’ve at last hit the final milestone before writing those most blessed words of tongue or pen, The End!
Another, slightly creepier take on Hesperonychus. And after only six and a half years. [...] No, not that D&D. see more Lolcats and funny pictures Although I am Deranged & Disorganized, per SOP after finishing a project. I’m too nuts, you’ll notice, even to hunt up an appropriately amusing D&D themed cartoon. (Note from somewhat later: I didn’t hunt, but found anyway, and consequently have retconned the above LOLcat into the [...] I love this kind of stuff: in 1999, a 16-year old kid named Tyler Lyson found a fossilized hadrosaur of the kind called Edmontosaurus in Hell Creek, North Dakota. (How great a name is Hell Creek, anyway?) To start with, you go, Tyler! But it gets better. Turns out the fossil includes not [...] (I’m tickled by the subject line because it sounds like the title of an anime. OK, that’s probably just me. Again.) The Dinosaur Lords has gone on the back burner – also again, sigh – as I strive heroically to wrap up Annja’s latest adventure so I can get started on the new one. [...] OK, last night I seriously came out (no, not that way), unveiling the big project I’ve been working on the last several years: a high fantasy novel called The Dinosaur Lords. Remember that name. You will come to know it well. I read a couple of chapters to the Albuquerque Science Fiction Society, to a gratifyingly [...] |
